Searching for the 'melano-miRs': miR-214 drives melanoma metastasis.
Since the beginning of micro-RNA (miR) research, several attempts have been made to identify the ‘melano-miRs’, which are involved in melanoma progression. Indeed, a small number of miRs have been identified to regulate some genes involved in melanogenesis. However, the miRs that control the pathway to the malignant phenotype are yet undescribed. In this issue of the EMBO Journal, Penna et al (...

Changes in dispersion or concentration of pigment within melanophores of vertebrates have been studied chiefly by the use of tlie microscope, and as a scale of measurement the melanophore index of Slome and Hogben ('28) has been adopted widely. This system has the disadvantage of being arbitrary and incapable of detecting slight movements of pigment which may well prove to be significant. Of se...
متن کاملRetinal pigmentation due to choroidal melano-sarcoma with observations on congenital grouped pigmentation of the retina.
A FORM of grouped pigmentation of the retina may occur in association with detached retina due to choroidal melano-sarcoma and, when present, is probably diagnostic of this disease. Grouped pigmentation of the retina also occurs as a congenital stationary condition. Two cases of the former and three of the latter are presented below. Evidence is given that both forms of pigmentation may be due ...
